Does anyone have experience with creating a bluebird trail in cemeteries? I have a list of all our cemeteries and the caretakers in our county. I plan to write a letter requesting permission to place nest boxes in there. I also need to find people to make nest boxes. I have contacted the high school and plan to reach the 4H groups.

I appreciate any advice you can give me. thanks.

This is my first year at bluebirding and I am on a roll...and hooked on bluebirds.

Teri,

I would think that cemeteries would be great places for nestboxes. Lots of scattered trees, headstones for perching and hunting, not a lot of activity. They are kept mowed so the grass is short. Go for it!

Teri - Yes, cemeteries are an excellent place for a Bluebird trail. Have a number in them and they do well. Dan McCue in Camden, TN (west TN)

I was thinking of placing some bird houses in a cemetery. It has an assortment of trees but it does have alot of euclyptus. Aside from butterflys, are there any birds that like to hang out in euclyptus trees?

They keep the grass mown.

Tina - Can't help on the trees, since we don't have them in TN, but I can tell all that the Blues love cemeteries, I have boxes in many here in TN and they do well. Regards to all and have a happy turkey day! Dan

Dan...... this is not Tina, but I am glad to hear that the BLuebirds like cementeries for their birdhouses because I am thinking of starting a trail next year or the following year in a cemetary here if I can get permission to do that from the township. Thanks for the information.

Yes. Although I can't say I've seen Bluebirds "in" them, I've observed quite a few birds hang out in and around them. My BB trail is in a county park (Ed R. Levin), so I have occasion to observe the birds and those trees. I have 4 hanging boxes in Eucalyptus, From which I fledged three crops of Chickadees (Chestnut-backed) and one of WEBLs.

But my most interesting "find" in a Eucalyptus are those neat little Selasophorus hummers that blaze through here in the spring on their way north... For some reason they seem to hang around a particular set of Eucalyptus trees in the park. I can pretty well guarantee seeing them there...
